Sunkami Akinboye is yet another prolific and highly talented Nigerian artist who has been plying his trade in the Nigerian comic book circuit for several years. Having worked for Litramed Publications, Panaramic Entertainment, Pandora Comics and YouNeek Studios. What I’ve always liked about Sunkanmi’s art is his attention to detail and the fact that he’s always willing to do research without all on his own to ensure that whatever he’s working on comes out even better than what you initially believed.
Well, as criteria for this list goes, Sunkanmi certainly makes the cut, but the deciding factor, aside from his professionalism, would have to be the fact that the EXO graphic novel reportedly sold over 40,000 copies at a book fair and not many Nigerian comic artists can make that same claim. But what I’ve always also liked about Sunkanmi is that art style seems to change ever so slightly to suit whatever it is his drawing.
Sunkanmi’s comic credits inlcudes work done for Okiojo’s Chronicles, the highly touted E.X.O graphic novel, artwork for Pedcomics’ NewBorn Saga and many, many more. He’s also happens to be the creative director of LineBug studios, is one of the founders of the UNICON (comic con) and is the artist on their soon to be released titles Frontline and Weju; which I believe were previewed at the recently launched Unicon.
Here’s a look at some of his art:
